Westfield (5-0)

The damp and cold conditions of late March and early April, which curtailed the start of many spring sports, finally subsided resulting in a balmy spring afternoon as the Scotch Plains U14 intercounty girls soccer team opened its season Sunday April 18 in Westfield. Despite a lack of practice, the team known as “Wild Things” was in midseason form as they scored early and often in cruising to a surprisingly easy 5-0 victory over the Westfield Blue Devils

Alexus Jegede and Cassie Berwick each connected twice in the first half and Jaclyn Lazarus added a second half tally as Scotch Plains continually pressured the Westfield defense. Lazarus and Berwick combined for the shutout as the defense combination of Lauryn Adams, Whitney Adams, Kaitlyn Denker,Magan Mauro and Kathleen Yan kept Westfield at bay.

The midfield and offense combination of Rebecca Von Langen, Jillian Murphy, Jessica Santos, Christina Dokopoulos, Mary Kate Feury, Krista Ciecura, Amanda Curcie, Berwick, Lazarus and Jegede advanced the ball skillfully in the first half and played a strong possession game in the second half..
